The Waukesha County Health Department is investigating a Norovirus outbreak linked to Waukesha North High School, they have not identified a potential source or cause of the illness.

Some Waukesha North High School students become ill after attending prom on April 9 at the Brookfield Conference Center. The Health Department has said one of the ill attendees has norovirus. According to a letter from Waukesha North principal Kristin Higgins, the school’s administration received more than a dozen reports of students experiencing gastrointestinal issues such as vomiting and diarrhea following prom.

Norovirus is very contagious and is easily transmitted from person to person most through the oral/fecal route.

Considering that hand sanitizer does NOT work against this virus, it is important to wash your hands with soap frequently. Use bleach to clean and disinfect surfaces.

In case you are experiencing vomiting, diarrhea, body aches, and chills symptoms, it is important to report it. It can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance.
