Norovirus Outbreak on Seven Seas Mariner Cruise

1 day ago source cdc.gov business

1120 Caribbean Way, Miami, 33132 Florida, United States

Regent Seven Seas' cruise ship, Seven Seas Mariner, experienced a gastrointestinal illness outbreak during its voyage from January 11 to February 1, 2026. The outbreak affected 21 passengers and 6 crew members, primarily causing diarrhea. The causative agent remains unknown, and the outbreak was reported to the Vessel Sanitation Program (VSP) on January 29, 2026.

The outbreak occurred on voyage number MAR260111, with 631 passengers and 458 crew members onboard. The illness affected 3.3% of passengers and 1.3% of the crew. In response, Regent Seven Seas implemented increased cleaning and disinfection procedures, isolated affected individuals, and collected stool specimens for testing. The cruise line also consulted with VSP for guidance on sanitation and reporting procedures.

The problem was discovered when passengers and crew reported symptoms to the onboard medical center, allowing for quick detection and response. The VSP remotely monitored the situation, reviewing the ship's outbreak response and sanitation efforts. Samples from affected individuals are currently pending confirmatory testing to identify the causative agent.
