Valencia Elementary School in Aptos, California, has temporarily closed due to a norovirus outbreak. The Pajaro Valley Unified School District reported that several students have fallen ill. The Santa Cruz County Health Services Agency has reported 93 cases at the school as of November 5th, with additional cases still being identified. The school is set to reopen on November 12th, following the Veterans Day holiday. The outbreak follows 33 confirmed cases in a Santa Cruz County workplace in late October, but there is no known correlation between the two incidents. The outbreak was discovered through routine illness surveillance in the school. County health officials are advising residents to frequently wash their hands, particularly after coming into contact with potentially contaminated surfaces, and before and after using the restroom or preparing food.
