Potential Hepatitis A exposure linked to a R&M IGA Deli employee in Eastport, ME

4 years ago source maine.gov business

88 Washington Street, Eastport, 04631 Maine, United States

The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Maine CDC) is warning anyone who purchased deli food items at the R&M IGA at 88 Washington Street in Eastport, Maine between May 3 to May 22 that may have been potentially exposed to hepatitis A, as they have identified a case of acute hepatitis A virus infection from a food service worker who handled deli products while was infectious.

Maine CDC advises that deli food items purchased from this location on May 3-22 should be discarded or cooked thoroughly. Anyone who ate food prepared in the R&M IGA deli during the dates previously mentioned should receive the hepatitis A vaccine, as long they are within the 14 days of their potential exposure. Anyone who ate food prepared at or who worked at this establishment from May 3-12, 2021, is outside the window for which prophylaxis is recommended.

If you are experiencing Hepatitis A symptoms like fever, jaundice, nausea, clay-colored stool, dark urine, malaise, abdominal discomfort, or vomiting, it is important to report it. It can help to detect and resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance.
