Salmonella Outbreak in Campbellsville, KY- Unknown source

2 years ago source lcdhd.org

Campbellsville, 42718 Kentucky, United States

The Lake Cumberland District Health Department (LCDHD) is investigating a foodborne illness outbreak alongside the Kentucky Department for Public Health (KDPH). To date, 13 cases have been reported in Campbellsville, Kentucky, with 6 confirmed and seven probable cases of salmonella.

The outbreak, specifically linked to a food product, began between September 8-10, 2023. The individuals affected exhibited symptoms consistent with salmonella, such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, abdominal cramps, headache, loss of appetite, and dehydration. While new cases have not been reported recently, suggesting the outbreak might not be ongoing, the investigation continues due to the severity of the illness.

Salmonella often affects children under 5 years, adults over 65, and individuals with weakened immune systems more severely. While most people recover from salmonella symptoms within a week without needing treatment, it's essential to monitor yourself and others closely and report any potential foodborne illness. If symptoms persist, seek medical attention immediately. Further information can be found via the Kentucky Food Safety Reporting website.
