United States
The FDA and CDC are investigating a multistate outbreak of extensively drug-resistant Salmonella Newport infections linked to Rosabella-brand moringa powder capsules, distributed by Ambrosia Brands LLC. Seven cases have been reported across seven states in the United States (AZ, FL, IA, IL, IN, TN and WA), with three hospitalizations and no deaths. The affected products have expiration dates in 2027.The outbreak has been traced to certain lots of Rosabella-brand moringa powder capsules, sold in white plastic bottles with a green label. These products were available through various online platforms, including eBay, TikTok shop, Amazon, Shein, and the Tryrosabella.com online store. Symptoms of Salmonella infection typically appear 12 to 72 hours after consumption and include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps.
The issue was identified through epidemiological data collected by the CDC, revealing that all interviewed patients had consumed the implicated moringa powder capsules. The FDA has recommended a recall of the affected lots, and Ambrosia Brands LLC has agreed to proceed with the recall. The FDA is conducting a traceback investigation to determine the source of contamination and is working with state partners to collect samples. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
