Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Moringa Capsules

The CDC and FDA have concluded their investigation into the multistate outbreak of Salmonella Typhimurium infections linked to MOGO-brand moringa powder capsules distributed by MOGO Moringa LLC of St. Louis, Missouri. The CDC has declared the outbreak over. The outbreak resulted in 34 illnesses across 14 states, including 11 hospitalizations and no deaths. Illnesses began between August 27, 2025, and June 21, 2026. One additional person reported consuming the moringa capsules while breastfeeding; the infant became ill with the outbreak strain.

Among 17 people interviewed, 14 (82%) reported consuming moringa powder capsules, including 11 who specifically reported consuming MOGO-brand moringa capsules.

During the investigation, the FDA and state health departments conducted traceback investigations, facility inspections, and product sampling. The FDA determined that MOGO Moringa LLC sourced all of its moringa leaf powder from India. Inspections of the ingredient supplier and manufacturer identified deficiencies at both facilities.

Health departments in Washington, Tennessee, and Florida collected open containers of MOGO-brand moringa powder capsules that tested positive for the same strain of Salmonella responsible for the outbreak. The FDA has increased screening of imported moringa powder from India for Salmonella.

The CDC has declared the outbreak over, and the FDA’s outbreak investigation is complete. However, recalled products have a long shelf life and may still be in consumers’ homes. Consumers should check for recalled MOGO-brand moringa capsules and discard any recalled product.

Mogo Moringa LLC has issued a recall for its Pure Moringa Oleifera Capsules following a multistate Salmonella outbreak. The outbreak has affected 18 people across 14 states, with seven hospitalizations reported.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and public health officials are investigating the outbreak, which has been traced back to Mogo brand moringa capsules.

The recalled products were sold online in white plastic bottles with a green label. Two specific lots, 15525AA and 00926AA, with expiration dates of June 2027 and January 2028, respectively, have been identified as potentially contaminated.

The issue was discovered after reports of illness were linked to the consumption of the moringa capsules. The investigation is ongoing as officials work to prevent further cases.
