THE Bureau of Environmental Health on Monday shut down Jhem’s in Garapan, after finding multiple sanitary violations, including cockroach and rodent infestations.BEH health inspector Lily Kapileo Igisaiar said they had received complaints against the restaurants.
She said they shut down Jhem’s at 11:20 a.m. after finding that the restaurant was unable to maintain sanitary practices.
During the inspection, the BEH team found indications of roach infestation, she added.
The inspectors also noted a grease build-up on exhaust fans, counter tops, around and behind equipment, cookware and the cooking station.
One-time-use utensils such as plastic forks and spoons were being reused and dishes were not being washed in a timely manner, Igisaiar said.
Moreover, the restaurant did not have running hot water available during operational hours, she added.
“They are not up to par with the standards. They failed to meet the food-handler safety requirements.”
She said Jhem’s was also cited for having employees who did not possess a valid food-handler’s certificate.
Igisaiar said Jhem’s should renew its food-handler’s certificate and comply with the corrective actions recommended by BEH
