The US Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announced that there is an outbreak of E. coli linked to the Sunflower Crisp Chopped Salad Kits by Fresh Express.
In the US, eight persons reported sick, while three of these persons have been hospitalized. So far sick people have been reported from Minnesota, North Dakota, and Wisconsin. Meanwhile, in Canada, 16 people have been reported sick with this E. coli strain and four of them have required hospitalization. Sick people have been reported from Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland and Labrador. No deaths have been reported to date in either country.
FDA and the CFIA advise consumers not to consume the recalled products and discard them. The product linked to this outbreak is the following:
- Fresh Express Sunflower Crisp Chopped Salad Kits. UPC: 0 71279 30906 4. Lot code: beginning with Z. Best before date: up to and including 07DEC19
The CFIA announced that the previously mentioned products were recalled of the Canadian marketplace. According to the FDA, this outbreak strain is different from the E. coli outbreak linked to romaine from the Salinas, California growing region.
