Florentine Cookies - recall due to Undeclared Peanuts

2 years ago source portal.ct.gov

Waterbury, Connecticut, United States

Stew Leonard's grocery store chain, in collaboration with the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection and the Department of Public Health, has issued a recall for Florentine Cookies containing undeclared peanuts. This poses a potential risk to consumers with peanut allergies. The cookies were distributed to and sold at Stew Leonard's stores in Danbury and Newington in Connecticut from November 6 to December 31, 2023. 1 death reported to date.

The recalled Florentine Cookies, bearing the brand name of Stew Leonard's, were produced by Cookies United. These cookies are identified by their best-before date, specifically, January 5, 2024.

There is a death linked to the consumption of this product of a New York resident, who reportedly consumed the cookies at a social event in Connecticut. Investigations have been initiated across Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey involving public health officials, the Food and Drug Administration, and Stew Leonard's to comprehend the root of the mislabeling and to examine if other products were impacted.

Consumers with a peanut allergy are urged not to eat the Florentine Cookies.
