Gaganis Premium Australian Poppy Seed - recalled due to the presence of thebaine

FSANZ announced the recall of Gaganis Premium Australian Poppy Seeds by Gaganis Bros Imported Food Wholesalers Pty Ltd together with other businesses responsible for their brands and products because of the potential presence of a chemical (thebaine) due to unsafe poppy seeds entering the food supply. These products have been available for sale at independent food retailers, online, and direct from Gaganis in SA.The recalled product is:
- Gaganis Premium Australian Poppy Seed, 500 gr and 1 kg, all Best Before dates from 1 September 2023 up to and including 8 November 2023, July 2024 & October 2024.
Food products containing thebaine may cause illness if consumed. Severe poisoning soon after ingestion has occurred in some people who have consumed large amounts of poppy seeds.
Consumers should not eat these products and should return to the place of purchase for a full refund and safe disposal.
