Food Safety Report: Spice Class Ground Cinnamon - recalled due to lead contaminant

1 month ago source fda.gov

Recall notice

New York, New York, United States

American Spices, LLC is recalling Spice Class brand Ground Cinnamon because it has the potential to be contaminated with elevated levels of lead. Spice Class brand Ground Cinnamon was distributed to retailers located in the New York City area between 12/01/2023 and 05/15/2024.

Short-term exposures to very low levels of lead may not elicit any symptoms. It is possible that increased blood lead levels may be the only apparent sign of lead exposure. If a child is exposed to enough lead for a protracted period of time (e.g., weeks to months) permanent damage to the central nervous system may occur. This can result in learning disorders, developmental defects, and other long-term health problems. For adults, chronic lead exposure is associated with kidney dysfunction, hypertension, and neurocognitive effects.

The recalled product is SPICE CLASS BRAND Ground Cinnamon packed in 7oz and 11oz packing PET jars with an expiration date: 12/2026.

Consumers should discontinue use of the product immediately and are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

In case you experience harm from extraneous materials, it is important to report it. It can help to detect & resolve issues and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.
