Campylobacter: Flight Meal ICU - Airlines, Schwechat Lower Austria

6 years ago reported by user-mvvp2437 business

Austrian Airlines, Senator Lounge, Schwechat, Austria

Schwechat, 1300 Lower Austria, Austria

On Jan 22, my 84-year old father flew Austrian Airlines OS89 from Vienna to Newark and ate chicken. After several days of increasingly worsening diarrhea at their final destination in GA, he finally was admitted to the ICU at Brunswick hospital on Jan 27 where he had to be intubated. He was diagnosed with campylobacter and spent a total of 9 days in the ICU, 5 of which he was on the ventilator barely escaping death. He is currently in rehab requiring PT to regain his ability to feed himself and sit/walk. | Symptoms: Diarrhea, Fever, Nausea
