Additional information: In December 2018, I went through a terrifying experience while on vacation with my family at a resort in the Dominican Republic. My objective is to determine the root cause of my sickness and to comprehend how I became infected.
I experienced the same tragic outcome as the 80 people who perished and others who became unwell at various resorts in the Dominican Republic around the same time in 2018-2019. They also fell ill shortly after drinking beverages from the minibar or other places within the hotel.
I suffered respiratory failure and pulmonary edema, necessitating intubation. I spent two weeks in a coma and an additional week in the cardiology department.
I had a range of severe health issues including pneumonia, respiratory failure, fluid in both lungs, and dilated left ventricle with greatly reduced pumping ability (LVEF = 15%) and Non-ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction, leading to heart failure.
