The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets issued a consumer alert due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination in raw milk from Big Brook Farm, located in Oneida County, New York. The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets has not reported any illnesses associated... See More with this product to date.

A sample of the milk collected by an inspector from the Department was discovered to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. On March 13, 2024, the producer was notified of a preliminary positive test result. Further laboratory testing, completed on March 18, 2024, confirmed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in the raw milk sample. The producer is now prohibited from selling raw milk until subsequent sampling indicates that the product is free of harmful bacteria.

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that can cause listeriosis, a serious infection particularly dangerous for young children, the elderly, cancer patients, and others with weakened immune systems. It can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women. It is important to note that raw milk does not provide the protection of pasteurization, which is the process that kills the bacteria responsible for numerous illnesses and diseases.

In case you are experiencing Listeria monocytogenes symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, it is important to report it. It can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.

Shortly he experienced an sudden onset of diahrea, then several boughts of nausea and vomiting, followed by chills and low grade fever. He had anther episodes of vomiting later about 12 hrs after eating. I had more diahrea and one episode of vomiting, accompanied by chills, body aches, and intermittent low grade fever. Because my husband ate three crab salad sandwiches and i had only one, it led us to believe that this is why his symptoms were more severe. 24 hours later, we are still experiencing at times some gastrointestinal cramping and diahrea, and some aches and low grade fever. | Symptoms: Nausea, Diarrhea, Vomiting, Fever, Chills, Body Ache, Gas, Cramps See Less
