Food Safety Report: Norovirus cases on the rise in Marion County.

4 years ago source marionph.org

Iowa, United States

Marion County Public Health announced that Marion County is experiencing an uptick in norovirus cases.

Norovirus is a virus that causes diarrhea and vomiting. Norovirus is easily spread, most frequently spread through the oral/fecal route. Norovirus is NOT killed by hand sanitizer; hand washing for 20 seconds is the most effective method of preventing spread. Wash your hands frequently, and especially after using the restroom, before preparing or eating food.

Environmental cleaning for norovirus should be done using a bleach-based cleaner, or a commercial cleaner that is specifically effective for norovirus
