Hi, thanks for your comment - but this is not entirely true. You CAN get sick from food that quickly. If the contamination is chemical or physical symptoms can start within minutes. If it is biological contamination it can start as fast as 30 minutes (e.g. staph). Other types of contamination can take longer, it all depends on what it was, but it can be fast!

Local, state, and federal (CDC, FDA) public health authorities investigated multiple potential clusters of cyclosporiasis cases during 2023, with onset on or after April 1, 2023. As of October 24, 2023, 41 jurisdictions, including 40 states and New York City, have reported a total of 2,272 laboratory-confirmed... See More cases of cyclosporiasis. 186 have been hospitalized and no deaths were reported. These individuals had not traveled outside of the United States during the 14 days before they got sick. No specific food items have been identified as the source of most of these illnesses.
As it currently stands, the actual count of people infected with cyclosporiasis may be higher than reported, due to some individuals potentially recovering without seeking medical attention or being tested for Cyclospora. Cyclosporiasis, caused by the parasite Cyclospora cayetanensis, causes diarrhea, loss of appetite, and cramping. Cyclosporiasis cases are reported year-round in the United States, with increases in case counts seen during the spring and summer months.

Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy people infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare instances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis, and arthritis.
Due to the 11/8/2023 recall of fresh, whole cantaloupes by Sophia Foods, LLC (DBA Trufresh) of Nogales, AZ, in response to a notification by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency of a potential contamination with Salmonella, Vinyard Fruit and Vegetable Company is issuing this recall.
