New York City Health Department is investigating a potential Campylobacter outbreak in Brooklyn, NY, approximately 50 cases have been reported in the borough since the start of the month, according to the news. They are still trying to find the cause of the outbreak.

Campylobacter and other harmful germs can survive on your hands. The CDC advises washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water to avoid campylobacter infection during these times:
- Before, during, and after preparing food
- Before eating food
- After using the toilet
- After changing diapers or cleaning up a child who has used the toilet
- After blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing
- Before and after caring for someone who is sick
- Before and after treating a cut or wound
- After touching pets and other animals or their food or poop
- After touching garbage

In case you experience Campylobacter symptoms such as diarrhea (often bloody), fever, nausea, vomiting, and stomach cramps, report it now. It can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.
