Lead Outbreak linked to Good & Gather Baby Food

7 months ago source content.govdelivery.com

Oregon, United States

The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) is advising parents and caregivers to avoid a recalled baby food product after two cases of lead poisoning were reported in Oregon. The affected product, Good & Gather Baby Pea, Zucchini, Kale, Thyme Vegetable Puree, was linked to elevated blood lead levels in children from two counties.

The outbreak stems from a March recall of over 25,000 packages of baby food, which were sold in 4-ounce containers under Target's Good & Gather brand.

The issue was discovered when health investigators, during interviews with affected families, identified the consumption of the recalled flavor as a common factor. Lead exposure is particularly concerning for young children, as it can impact cognitive development and behavior. The OHA emphasizes the importance of awareness and caution to prevent further cases of lead poisoning.

If you or a loved one are harmed or experiencing any symptoms, it is important to report it. Reporting can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and enable better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.
