Outbreak
Westport Road, Castlebar, County Mayo, Ireland
Mayo University Hospital (MUH) is dealing with a Norovirus outbreak in one of their wards, because of that, they are advising that visits to the affected ward will be restricted to those who have reason to visit on compassionate grounds.MUH is also requesting that people do not visit the hospital if they are feeling unwell from symptoms of winter vomiting or flu-like symptoms, also they are appealing to the public not to visit the hospital if they have had contact with people with diarrhea and/or vomiting. These measures are vital to avoid spreading the virus to sick vulnerable patients.
Norovirus is very contagious and is easily transmitted from person to person most through the oral/fecal route. Considering that hand sanitizer does NOT work against this virus, it is important to wash your hands with soap frequently. Use bleach to clean and disinfect surfaces. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.
