The Pennsylvania Health Department has confirmed a norovirus outbreak at Faccia Luna Pizzeria, State College, following reports of customers falling ill after dining at the establishment. The popular restaurant on South Atherton Street temporarily closed its doors for three days this week after several customers and staff members reported symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea. The state's health and agriculture departments, in collaboration with the State College health department, have been investigating the outbreak. Numerous patrons of the restaurant, particularly those who participated in the Foodies of State College Facebook group, reported illness after consuming food from Faccia Luna, with many suggesting the salad as a possible source. The Pennsylvania Department of Health spokesperson confirmed on Friday that norovirus was the cause of the sickness. The health department has not disclosed the number of people affected by the outbreak, stating that the investigation is still ongoing. The outbreak was discovered after laboratory tests confirmed that the symptoms reported by the affected individuals were caused by norovirus. The Department is still investigating the potential source of transmission. Despite the outbreak, Faccia Luna owner, Bill McFadden, maintains that the food served at the restaurant was not the cause of the illness. He assured that the restaurant is working closely with the health department to ensure the safety of its customers. Following the temporary closure, Faccia Luna reopened its doors on Friday. The restaurant's management used the closure period to thoroughly clean and sanitize the entire premises. In a statement posted on the Foodies of State College Facebook group, the restaurant expressed regret over the unfortunate incident and reiterated its commitment to providing a safe and enjoyable dining experience for all its customers.
