*Update* - September 30, 2021

As of September 29, 2021, 419 people infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella Oranienburg have been reported from 35 states (AL, GA, KY, LA, MS, OK, AR, CA, CT, FL, IL, IN, IA, KS, MD, MA, MI, MN, MO, NE, NJ, NM, NY, NC, ND, OR, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, and WI). 66 have been hospitalized and no deaths have been reported. Illnesses started on dates ranging from June 19, 2021 to September 14, 2021.

State and local officials have collected food items from some of the restaurants where sick people ate. The outbreak strain of Salmonella Oranienburg was found in a sample taken from a takeout condiment cup containing cilantro and lime. Because multiple food items were present in the container and in the sample that was tested, it is not possible to know which food item was contaminated.
