Nestle Milkybar and Nuii Salted Caramel Ice Creams- recalled due to unauthorized pesticide

3 years ago source fsai.ie

Recall notice

Ireland

The FSAI announced the recall of certain batches of Nestlé Milkybar Mini Multipack ice cream and Nuii Salted Caramel ice cream due to the presence of the unauthorised pesticide ethylene oxide in the batch of food additive locust bean gum (E410) used in their production.

Locust bean gum (E410) is an approved food additive in the EU and is used as a thickener and stabiliser in a broad range of food products. Ethylene oxide is a pesticide that is not permitted for use in foods sold in the EU but is approved for use by other countries outside the EU.

The recalled products are:
- Nestlé Milkybar Mini Multipack ice cream (6 x 50 ml), Batch code: Ml1099, Best before: 04.2023
- Nuii Salted Caramel ice cream (90 ml), Batch code: Ml1115 and Ml1114, Best before: 04.2023

Although the consumption of the contaminated products does not pose an acute risk to health, there is an increased risk if there is continued consumption of ethylene oxide in contaminated food over a long period of time. Therefore, exposure to ethylene oxide needs to be minimised.

In case you are experiencing food poisoning symptoms, it is important to report it. It can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance.
