In 2009, yes 10 years ago. I was at the Grand Bahia Principe Bavaro in Punta Cana and on my very first night, we ate at the Asian restaurant and about 1-2 hours later I woke up in excruciating pain, throwing up, diarrhea, fever and literally thought I was dying. My boyfriend (now husband) had to call for help (called at least 3 times). They finally came and got me and brought me to their doctor. In order to be "seen" I had to pay him $500. Once he evaluated me, he said I should go to their local hospital, I refused so they gave me some medicine (anti-viral?) and two iv's. The rest of the vacation (3 more days) was a blur because I was so sick. I didn't eat/drink anything other than bottled water and bread. When i came home, I was admitted to the hospital for 5 days on iv antibiotics. My doctor said I had one of the worst strands of e-coli and my kidneys were failing. Luckily, I got help. I wish I reported this years ago but since these reports are coming out in the news I felt I had to post this somewhere that mattered so others could see how serious this issue is in the Dominican Republic. | Symptômes: Diarrhée, Fièvre, Nausée, Vomissements
