Barceló Maya, 77734 Quintana Roo, Mexico
Our family booked a week long stay at the Barcelo Maya. We’ve been here before and didn’t have any problems. This time, on day three of our stay, our son started complaining of stomach cramps which turned into severe diarrhea. After two days of not eating and doing nothing but laying in the bedroom and resting so he could be near the toilet at all times and taking Imodium, his symptoms seemed to be getting worse. We sought the advice of the doctor at the clinic at the resort who determined he should go to the hospital based on symptoms and vitals (including high fever and low blood pressure). After we spent the entire day (10 hours) in the hospital hooked up to an IV to help combat the dehydration due to the severe diarrhea. After blood work and stool tests, the hospital determined that he had food poisoning and likely got it from something he ate at the resort. Spent the last days of our trip in the room with my son eating saltines and drinking pedialite to help recover electrolytes. | Symptoms: Nausea, Diarrhea, Stomach Pain, Fever, Cramps, Headache, Dehydration
