Wedding Guests Experience Illness - Buffet, Quintana Roo

3 years ago reported by user-kmwxw264 business

Dreams Playa Mujeres Golf & Spa Resort, Zona Continental, SM 3 MZ 1 LT 1, Quintana Roo, Mexico

77400 Quintana Roo, Mexico

Resort was beautiful etc., what one would expect for the high end price. I was there for a destination wedding from June 23rd to the 1st of July. My wife and I ate only at the resorts many restaurants and buffets, I got a terrible stomach ache, horrible cramps and overall sick feeling, which lasted more than a week. Doctor in states treated with various medications, but I could swear it was the large amounts of pumpkin seeds and papaya seed powder recommended by the gastro docs nurse that did the trick.
Of the 100 or so people who flew in from all over the world for the wedding, at least 80% reported various stomach ailments from diarrhea, nausea including two guests whose symptoms mimicked the flu, upon consulting a doctor, it
was identified as food borne pathogen requiring medical treatment. They were sick for more than 2 weeks.
While everything looked clean enough, the tap water was heavily chlorinated, and I drank only bottled water. I noticed the buffets seemed to include many of the dishes served at the various restaurants, so food recycling in the sense of serving for more than a day or two may have played a part.
The place is beautiful, the resort very nice, but I'll never return, there are many other such places in the world, where you don't lose half of your hard earned and precious few days of leisure dealing with stomach and digestive problems. | Symptoms: Diarrhea, Nausea, Cramps, Gas, Stomach Pain
