Traveled with 3 friends 4/29 - 5/5/19. AC in rooms was not working. Although reported daily to front desk and travel rep.., they were not accomodating and refused to move us for reasons ranging from they were working on it to it was a widespread problem to no other rooms available. Our room smelled, it felt like we were sleeping on wet laundry, our clothes in the closet became damp. By day 4, two of us developed mild GI discomfort which developed into explosive diarrhea, I did not leave the room friday afternoon/ evening d/t belly discomfort, mailase and diarrhea. We did not drink from the mini bar. We did not use water from the faucets other than to shower. We figured it was the poor air quality in our room and couldn't be happier to leave DR. Once back to the States, GI issues., fever and malaise continued until extreme headache developed which persisted for 3 days. I believe stress off the situation and the GI issues wiped out my resistance and I developed Shingles! At this point GI is probably 90% resolved. I've been to Physician twice. Shingles rash has resolved but residual pain persists. Very disgusted with RIU as well as travel agency as they have denied our reports of the room quality conditions existing which obviously contributed to our medical problems. They should absolutely be held accountable for pre existing situations that were not addressed .. as evidenced by multiple traveler reviews..and therefore have put my health as well as others at risk. I did not have any preexisting medical or immunity issues.
