Food Safety Report: Increase of Norovirus cases in McHenry County, Illinois.

4 years ago source thepressreleaseengine.com

Illinois, United States

The McHenry County Department of Health announced (MCDH) an increase of norovirus outbreaks in the community and encourages people to take action to prevent the spread of the virus.

As Norovirus is highly contagious and spreads quickly from person to person, the MCDH recommends people take the following steps recommended by the CDC and Illinois Department of Public Health to assist in the prevention and spread of norovirus:
- Frequently wash your hands.
- Using hand sanitizers in addition to handwashing can be beneficial but using hand sanitizers should NOT replace hand washing.
- Routinely clean and sanitize kitchen utensils, counters and surfaces before preparing food.
- Rinse fruits and vegetables before eating.
- Cook oysters and other shellfish thoroughly before eating them.
- Avoid preparing food for others when sick and for at least two days after symptoms stop.

In case you are experiencing Norovirus symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting, nausea and stomach pain, it is important to report it. It can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance.
