The Virginia Department of Health announced an update of an ongoing investigation about potential Hepatitis exposure linked to Luigi’s restaurant located at 3301 Brambleton Ave, Roanoke, VA.Public Health revealed that an employee of this restaurant may have had limited involvement in handling food prior to the food being cooked before consumption. Cooking food kills the virus that causes hepatitis A, therefore this situation does not meet the criteria of an exposure.
Given the high level of sensitivity of hepatitis A in the community, and out of an abundance of caution, the Roanoke City Health Department is offering hepatitis A vaccine to anyone who ate at Luigi’s between the dates of April 26 – May 17.
If you are experiencing Hepatitis A symptoms like fever, jaundice, nausea, clay-colored stool, dark urine, malaise, abdominal discomfort, or vomiting, it is important to report it. It can help to detect and resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance.
