Food Safety Report - Melia Punta Cana Beach Resort, Punta Cana La Altagracia

Avenida Barceló, Punta Cana, 23000 La Altagracia, Dominican Republic
On our second day of vacation to the Dominican Republic (June 28, 2019)me and my girlfriend were relaxing on the beach, we had already eaten breakfast and it was getting close to lunch time. We had dozed off for a little while and when I woke up she had asked if I wanted to go eat lunch and I immediately started to feel really nauseous. I told her that I needed to go back to the room because I knew that I was going to throw up. We proceeded back to the room and when we got there I took a drink of water and went right to the bathroom. I threw up, it wasn’t a lot but right after I felt better. I sat down in the room to collect my self and drink some more water and I started feeling worse again. I threw up and had diarrhea for around 15-16 hours. I was completely depleted of all liquids and food, I drank as much water and Gatorade as I could but nothing would stay in my system. I finally was able to sleep for a little while and when I woke up I didn’t throw up again for the rest of the trip but the diarrhea continued. The food on this resort was bad even before I had gotten sick but I could hardly stand to eat anything there afterwards. It took me about 4 days to get to feeling back to somewhat normal. The morning after I got sick I took these supplements called “Remedy” by 1st Phorm. I swear these were a life savor for me. They are claimed to treat a hangover but all in all it’s just a ton of vitamins and minerals packed into a pill. I would recommend any person who is traveling anywhere to bring these because before I took them I was so weak and drained I could hardly make it from the bed to the bathroom. I took these supplements and within a few hours I could walk around and take care of my self for the most part. After talking it over with my girlfriend and trying to figure out what I ate and what she didn’t, we realized it had to be from the breakfast buffet where I ate this traditional Dominican chicken dish that was served out of a stainless steel warming bowl on the Buffett. I have to say that I cannot recommend going to this resort after dealing with what happened to me and I honestly probably won’t be returning back to this country after the countless things that just went wrong from our trip. I hope this helps someone out, so far I haven’t had any more symptoms of poisoning but if I do I will be going to the doctor. Thanks | Symptoms: Diarrhea, Fever, Nausea, Vomiting, Other, Weakness
