Tinned Oysters Cause Illness - Oysters, Cape Town Western Cape

1 week ago reported by user-qwtq7396

Oysters, Strand, Cape Town, South Africa

Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa

I bought 2 tins of cape point oysters from this branch on 2 feb 2026. I ate one tin on 5 Feb at about 3pm then took a nap. I awoke at 5 pm and started with diarreahea and nausea. Next day 6 Feb i had a high fever of 38.8 still nausea and diarreahea headache and chills. I went to my gp. I mentioned eating the oysters then starting to feel sick but he said it was likely the stomach flu going around as tinned oysters are relatively safe from bacteria. Symptoms still remained and continued i went back to gp on 12 Feb. I informed him of what i had researched regarding bacteria which could have been in the oysters. He agreed they must have been contaminated at started me on a course if 2 different antibiotics. I am feeling a lot better now since starting treatment and symptoms are subsiding. | Symptoms: Nausea, Diarrhea, Stomach Pain, Fever, Cramps, Chills, Headache
