Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Ontario Restaurant

6 months ago source kflaph.ca business

8 Wilson Street East, Perth, K7H 1L2 Ontario, Canada

The South East Health Unit (SEHU) is investigating a Salmonella outbreak linked to the Rocky River Café in Perth, Ontario. The outbreak has resulted in several cases of illness among patrons who dined at the restaurant around July 15, 2025.

The SEHU has reported an unusual number of Salmonella infections, a bacterial illness that can cause symptoms such as diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps. These symptoms typically appear between 6 hours to 7 days after exposure. The outbreak is believed to have originated from contaminated food served at the Rocky River Café. In response, the SEHU has issued a closure order for the restaurant under Section 13 of the Health Protection and Promotion Act. The café will remain closed until a thorough inspection confirms it is safe to reopen.

The problem was discovered following reports of gastrointestinal illness from individuals who had eaten at the café. The SEHU is working closely with the restaurant to address the issue and prevent further spread. Health Unit inspection reports are publicly available, and the SEHU continues to prioritize community health through inspections and education.
