Cyclosporiasis Infection Outbreak linked to Wake County Restaurants

3 months ago source wral.com

Outbreak

North Carolina, United States

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is investigating an outbreak of cyclosporiasis that has affected over 100 people and three restaurants in Wake County. The outbreak was identified in July and appears to be over, according to the DHHS. The specific contaminated food item has not been identified, but investigations suggest herbs and vegetables may be the cause. The Wake County Health Department reported 134 cyclosporiasis cases since May. While three restaurants were investigated, they are not believed to be the cause of the outbreak.

In case you are experiencing Cyclospora symptoms such as watery diarrhea (most common), cramping, bloating, increased gas, nausea, fatigue, and possibly vomiting and low-grade fever, it is important to report it. It can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.
