Gastrointestinal Outbreak Linked to 13 Coins in SeaTac

2 days ago source kingcounty.gov business

18000 International Boulevard, SeaTac, 98188 Washington, United States

Public Health has completed an investigation into a gastrointestinal illness outbreak linked to 13 Coins restaurant in SeaTac, Washington. The outbreak, which occurred on February 19, 2026, affected two individuals who reported symptoms such as diarrhea and stomach pains. The investigation has now concluded.

The investigation did not identify a specific food or drink item responsible for the outbreak. However, the symptoms were consistent with those caused by bacterial toxins, which can develop when food is left at room temperature for extended periods. These toxins are often produced by bacteria such as Bacillus cereus or Clostridium perfringens, which can contaminate food and cause illness.

The problem was discovered after two individuals reported becoming ill following their meal at 13 Coins on February 19. Public Health officials conducted interviews with the affected individuals to gather information about their symptoms and food consumption. A subsequent inspection of the restaurant on March 4, 2026, did not reveal any unsafe food practices, though it could not rule out the possibility of such practices occurring on the day of the outbreak. No laboratory testing was conducted, as symptoms from bacterial toxins typically resolve quickly, often before medical consultation is sought.
