Hana Koa Brewing Company in Honolulu has been linked to a confirmed case of Hepatitis A, according to Hawaii's Department of Health (DOH). The infected individual is a food service employee at the establishment, potentially affecting an unspecified number of customers.

The DOH has identified the risk period as between August 3 and 16, 2024. Customers who consumed food or drink products from Hana Koa Brewing Company during this time may have been exposed to the virus. Those who have not been vaccinated against Hepatitis A are advised to contact their healthcare provider.

The case was discovered after the employee fell ill and tested positive for Hepatitis A. The Department of Health has confirmed that Hana Koa Brewing Company was not found to have any food safety violations. The establishment was simply the workplace of the infected employee. The risk of patrons contracting the disease remains low. The DOH's Disease Outbreak Control Division is notifying the public to prevent possible additional cases. The brewery has cooperated fully with the DOH, excluding ill and potentially exposed food handlers, and is not considered a continuing risk for disease transmission
