Washington, United States
A norovirus outbreak has been linked to oysters harvested by Stellar Bay Shellfish Ltd. in British Columbia, Canada, resulting in 11 reported illnesses in Washington State. The affected oysters were harvested between December 22, 2025, and February 4, 2026, and sold under the brand names Kusshi, Chrome Point, Stellar Bay, and Stellar Bay Gold. The outbreak was identified after 11 individuals from five different meal parties in Washington State reported symptoms consistent with norovirus infection. These individuals had consumed raw oysters from the specified harvest area in British Columbia between January 17, 2026, and February 1, 2026. Norovirus is a highly contagious virus that can cause symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps.
The problem was discovered through reports of norovirus-like symptoms from affected individuals, prompting an investigation by health authorities. The FDA has since expanded its advisory, urging restaurants and retailers not to serve or sell the implicated oysters, and advising consumers to avoid eating them. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to prevent further cases.
