Three E. coli Cases Linked to Mercado Los Amigos in Yakima

4 months ago source yakimacounty.us business

1409 Fruitvale Boulevard, Yakima, 98902 Washington, United States

The Yakima Health District (YHD) is investigating three cases of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) linked to Mercado Los Amigos, a grocery store located at 1409 Fruitvale Blvd, Yakima. The affected individuals reported consuming meat, produce, and/or prepared foods from the store.

The outbreak has prompted Mercado Los Amigos to voluntarily close its doors on September 18, 2025, as a precautionary measure. The store is collaborating with YHD to mitigate the current risk and ensure future food safety. The affected individuals experienced symptoms such as abdominal cramping, severe or bloody diarrhea, and vomiting. While most people recover within 5-10 days, children under 5, adults over 65, and those with weakened immune systems are at higher risk for severe illness, including kidney failure.

The issue was discovered after the three individuals reported their symptoms and recent food consumption to health authorities. The YHD is conducting an ongoing investigation to determine the source of contamination and prevent further cases. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
