Umami Everyday and Everything But The Sushi & Dumplings sauces - recalled due to allergen

1 year ago source www.fda.gov

Recall notice

United States

Seed Ranch Flavor Co. of Boulder, CO, is voluntarily recalling its 5 fl ounce bottles of "Umami Everyday Sauce" and “Everything But The Sushi & Dumplings” sauce because they contain undeclared soy. These products were distributed nationwide in select retail stores, through Amazon.com, and the company’s own website, www.seedranchflavor.com. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

Affected products:
- Umami Everyday Sauce, 5oz Glass Woozy, UPC #: 8-67732-00032-2, Lot Codes: 010821; 020921; 030821; 051721; 081821Lot Codes; 120321; 012022; 031422; 042522; 081822; 092022
- Savory Spice Umami Everyday Sauce, 5oz Glass Woozy, UPC #: 8-50000-72724-3, Lot Codes: 120122; 062521
- Everything But The Sushi & Dumplings Sauce, 5oz Glass Woozy, UPC #: 8-60008-58851-7, Lot Codes: 071122; 081822; 6188 BB061025

The products come in 5 fluid ounce, glass woozy bottles. Lot codes and best-by dates can be found on the upper portion of the glass bottle, above the label, printed in either black or orange directly on the glass bottle.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the soy-containing product was distributed in packaging that did not explicitly reveal the presence of soy. Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company's production and packaging processes during a label redesign.

Production of the products with incorrect labels have been suspended and allergen information clearly disclosed on corrected labels.

Company name: Seed Ranch Flavor Co.
Brand name: Seed Ranch Flavor Co.
Product recalled: Various sauces
Reason of the recall: Undeclared soy
FDA Recall date: October 24, 2022

Consumers who have purchased 5 fl ounce bottles of "Umami Everyday" or “Everything But The Sushi & Dumplings” are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund or replacement. People who have allergies to soy run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

In case you experience harm from allergens or undeclared ingredients, it is important to report it. It can help to detect & resolve issues and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.

Whopper, Burger King, Ulster Avenue, Kingston, NY, USA

Ate the whopper around 12:30. The texture was awfully dry, but otherwise seemed normal. Began to feel generally unwell and stomach pain around 14:30. By 15:30 I was nauseous and light headed. 16:30, began the severe vomiting and diarrhea, which has continued (currently ongoing). Note: I did … See More
not eat breakfast or anything else prior to the whopper. I drank bottled water at the location, drank the same filtered water as my fiancé at home this morning, and only ate a few fries (which my fiancé also ate, and he’s currently ok). No food since. I’m a molecular biologist with a focus on infectious diseases, and I know what to look for regarding food poisoning cases.

Update 30/03: I actually suspect it's a toxin-producing bacterium, such as *S. aureus*, especially considering the rapid onset of symptoms. We also don't have a high number of norovirus cases in our area, so it's not something that I would consider to be suspicious when weighing other factors like norovirus' incubation period, symptoms like fever and myalgia, and rapid spread. I'm also not in close contact with many other people or shared surfaces, further reducing the index of suspicion. On the other hand, *Staph aureus* is ubiquitously found and the enterotoxins produced are highly heat stable, making it more likely to be the causative agent if the meat was older, improperly handled (especially regarding hygiene practices) or stored, or not cooked to temperature. The more aggressive symptoms are beginning to subside, though I'm definitely not the happiest-of-campers at this time.  | Symptoms: Nausea, Diarrhea, Vomiting, Stomach Pain, Lightheaded
