For the second time I got food poisoning at California Chicken Cafe. I decided to give the place a second chance, thinking the first time was an isolated incident., but it happened again. Now I'll never go there again. I wouldn't recommend the place to my worst enemies. Below is the report I sent to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. The "A" you see at the front entrance doesn't mean anything. They should have got an "F."
At about 2:45 pm on July 6, 2016 I ordered a three-piece chicken meal (with leg and thigh, mashed potatoes and fruit salad) at this California Chicken Cafe location. The food wasn't as hot as usual, but I ate it anyway. This is the only food I ate this day, other than breakfast cereal and a banana earlier at my home (that I ate again yesterday and am not sick from). About 6:30 pm after leaving, I still felt the food from California Chicken Cafe in my stomach. I started to get concerned. A short time later I started vomiting. The vomiting continued on and off until about 5:00 am. I vomited about 30 times. It wasn't pleasant, so there's no need for me to go into details. I had to take off work yesterday, as I was extremely weak and ill from the whole experience.
This IS NOT THE FIRST TIME this has happened at California Chicken Cafe Northridge. Several years ago a similar incident happened to me, that I also reported to the County of Los Angeles Public Health Department. After that happened, I no longer ate at California Chicken Cafe. About a year ago I decided to give them a second chance. After this new incident, I'll never eat there again. I have only been sick after eating at California Chicken Cafe, not at other restaurants. The FSIS announced the recall of approximately 621 pounds of fully-cooked chicken product by JX Restaurant, Inc. due to misbranding and undeclared allergens. The product contains sesame oil, a known allergen, which is not declared on the product label. This product was shipped to retail locations in... See More Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, and Wisconsin. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of this product.
The recalled product is:
- 16-oz. plastic trays containing “SISTER SISTER GENERAL TSO’S CHICKEN with FRIED RICE” and lot codes 11/07/23, 11/11/23, 11/17/23, 11/18/23, or 11/19/23 represented on the label.
The affected product was produced on various dates between Oct. 27 and Nov. 8, 2023, and bears establishment number “P-754” inside the USDA mark of inspection.
The problem was discovered by FSIS inspection personnel during a verification task where they discovered that sesame oil was not included on the label.
FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumers’ refrigerators or freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis, and arthritis.
Product was in boxes with a “wood-like” cardboard cartons with the Label “Malichita / Z Farms. The Price Lookup Sticker on the individual fruit is labeled “Malichita”.
The company has ceased sales and distribution of the product as FDA and the company continue their investigation as to what caused the problem. Information on what consumers should do with the product and where they can get additional information. Consumers who have purchased "Malichita / Z Farms" Brand Cantaloupes are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
