I have never had a food allergy. I recently bought the generic brand Raisin Bran crunch cereal at Aldi. I enjoyed a bowl as a quick, late dinner around 8 pm. Within 30 minutes my hands felt itchy, my ears felt itchy and my mouth and tongue began to swell. Another half hour later I began to experience severe cramping in my lower abdomen. By 10 pm my whole body was red and hot to the touch, even though I was shivering. Shortly after, the diarrhea started. I was running to the bathroom every hour and around 4 am my bowels turned to blood. That’s when I went to the ER. I had developed infectious colitis. I spent 3 days in the hospital getting IV fluids for severe dehydration and antibiotics pumped into my body. I just came home today. I may have saved $2 by buying generic, but it’s going to end up costing me thousands of dollars in hospital bills! | Symptoms: Diarrhea, Dehydration
