I think it might be that oyster crackers contain baking soda. I eat at this small fish and chips place sometimes where one of the entrees you can order is also New England clam chowder soup. I loved the oyster crackers and asked the owner if he could get me more to take home and eat. He gave me about 12 packs. After going home and eating 5 packs (maybe about 14 small crackers in each pack) in a few days, one morning my stomach was very painful. I was holding a hot water bottle against my stomach. My stomach stopped hurting after maybe 4 hours or so. Definitely was the oyster crackers. These things contain baking soda, which if eaten in larger amounts, can cause your stomach to bloat. I have Classic Autism and I am in my mid late 40s also, so it may be that too. Baking soda can really make your stomach bloat though. Take care - from someone in California
