Campylobacter from Fast Food - Wendy's, Geneseo New York

9 years ago reported by user-xjmm5777

Wendy's, Lakeville Road, Geneseo, NY, United States

4158 Lakeville Road, Geneseo, 14454 New York, United States

I ate at Wendy's in Geneseo on Friday, August 5th, 2016 around 2:20 PM. I got the 4 for $4 with the Jr bacon cheeseburger like I have done several times in the past.
On Saturday morning, I woke up with an achy back. By 3:00 PM, I had a fever of 100. By 6:00 PM it had escalated to 103.3 and all of my joints were aching. Most people I spoke to suspected Lyme disease, and I agreed with them. Some people said it was the flu, but it wasn't like any flu I've had before. I went to an urgent care and was treated for suspected Lyme disease. Late that evening the diarrhea started.
Sunday I woke up feeling far worse. We went to the emergency room. By the time we got there I was having severe cramps on the right side of my stomach, she suspected gallbladder or appendix.
After an X-ray, an ultrasound, a CT scan, and a bunch of blood tests. The CT scan showed infectious colitis, so the dr requested a stool sample to start ruling things out. In the mean time, I got admitted to the hospital. I got put on IV fluids and started with IV antibiotics.
In the end it ended up being campylobacter. It was an incredibly painful experience, and the only thing I could narrow it down to was Wendy's. I was in the hospital for 2 1/2 days, managing my pain with morphine because it was so excruciating... And I like to think I have a high pain tolerance. It is now Tuesday and I am still in the recovery process, but because it was caught early recovery should be quick. | Symptoms: Diarrhea, Cramps, Fever
