I was violently ill with vomiting and diarrhea. It was 4 days into our 10 day trip. I have not eaten 3 days and struggle to hold water down. The vomiting has eased up but the diarrhea has not stopped. The buffet food was always cold or luke warm. Is there no health and safety in Dominican? | Symptoms: Nausea, Diarrhea, Vomiting, Stomach Pain, Cramps, Headache

Nope. I got sick as well so was my daughter. Vomiting and bronchitis from jewel palm beach resort in 2024. Had to have iv and antibiotics and stayed in hospital 2 days. I will have PTSD after that trip and will never go back to Dominican. Beautiful country and beaches but cannot have hit and miss for food and pool safety.
Hygiene standards are sub-par and downright dangerous. Stayed at Melia 3x. First 2, no issues. Last time had diarrhea for 3 months. Only ate bananas, rice, applesauce, bread, and boiled chicken for 12 weeks! Turns out I had an autoimmune disease with manageable symptoms but after that trip, it came out full blown. Dr said my body was fighting food poisoning instead of my autoimmune which it allowed it to erupt full-blown. Diagnosed with microscopic collagenous colitis. Now I can’t eat gluten, dairy, or eggs. That 3rd trip totally ruined the rest of my life.
