Public Health Alert for Ineligible Pork Products Imported From Ecuador

1 year ago source fsis.usda.gov

Tobyhanna, 18466 Pennsylvania, United States

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a public health alert for frozen ready-to-eat pork mortadella products, potentially illegally imported from Ecuador. The investigation is ongoing, with the possibility of additional affected products. The products recalled were distributed to retail and distributor locations in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island

The products affected are 1-lb. vacuum-sealed packages labeled “Mortadela ESPECIAL BOLOGNIA.” These items lack an establishment number or the USDA mark of inspection. Ecuador is currently ineligible to export meat and poultry products to the United States, raising concerns about the origin and safety of these products.

FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumers’ freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be returned to the place of purchase.

If you or a loved one are harmed or experiencing any symptoms, it is important to report it. Reporting can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.
