UPDATE July 21, 2021CDC announced as of July 21, 2021, this outbreak is over, the investigation is closed.
As of this date, a total of 6 people infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella Weltevreden were reported from 2 states: AZ and NV. Illnesses started on dates ranging from February 26, 2021, to April 25, 2021. Of five people with information available, 2 were hospitalized. No deaths were reported.

The CDC and the FDA are investigating a multistate outbreak of Salmonella Weltevreden infections linked to frozen cooked shrimp supplied by Avanti Frozen Foods. As of June 25, 2021, a total of 6 people infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella Weltevreden have been reported from 2 states (AZ and NV), 2 people were hospitalized and no deaths were reported. The investigation is ongoing.
The recalled products linked with this outbreak are Frozen cooked shrimp supplied by Avanti Frozen Foods, sold under multiple brand names including 365, Censea, Chicken of the Sea, CWNO, Hannaford, Honest Catch, Meijer, Open Acres, and Waterfront Bistro. Imported between December 2020 to February 2021, but may have been sold in stores more recently. The recall notice was issued by FDA.
Both CDC and FDA are advising people not to eat, sell, or serve recalled frozen cooked shrimp supplied by Avanti Frozen Foods.
