A Salmonella outbreak has affected over 50 individuals in the Emilia Romagna region of Italy, specifically in Reggio Emilia. Health officials report that the outbreak has led to gastrointestinal symptoms, with three people requiring hospitalization. The source of the outbreak remains unidentified.

The Department of Public Health (DSP) in Emilia Romagna has been investigating the outbreak after receiving multiple reports of suspected foodborne illnesses. The symptoms, which include fever and gastrointestinal distress, have generally resolved within a few days for most affected individuals. The epidemiological investigation indicates that the majority of those sickened had consumed food from various outlets in Reggio Emilia shortly before falling ill. However, the specific food source responsible for the outbreak has yet to be determined.

The outbreak was discovered through routine health checks and patient reports. DSP conducted environmental and food safety inspections at the implicated businesses. Laboratory tests confirmed that 19 of the affected individuals were infected with Salmonella. Further testing of patient samples, as well as food and environmental samples, is ongoing.
