CN Smith, Wilson Farms, & Carlson Orchards apple cider products - recalled due to high levels of patulin

FDA announced the recall of 565 cases of CN Smith, Wilson Farms, and Carlson Orchards apple cider products by Bevovations, LLC due to high levels of patulin (above 50 ppb). These products were distributed in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and New Hampshire.The recalled products are:
- CN Smith brand Apple Cider, 1/2 gallon, Lot Code 171 Best By August 4, 2023. Product quantity: 12 cases distributed (per ATT B). All are packaged in HDPE bottles and shipped in corrugated closed boxes.
- Wilson Farms brand Apple Cider, 1/2 gallon and 16 oz, Lot Code 171 Best By August 4, 2023. Product quantity: 43 cases distributed (per ATT B). All are packaged in HDPE bottles and shipped in corrugated closed boxes.
- Carlson Orchards brand Apple Cider, 1 gallon, 1/2 gallon, and 16 oz. Lot Code 171 Best By August 4, 2023. Product quantity: 510 cases distributed (per ATT B). All are packaged in HDPE bottles and shipped in corrugated closed boxes.
This recall was initiated on 6/23/2023 and its status is ongoing. Do not consume, use, sell, serve, or distribute the recalled product.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Patulin is a mycotoxin produced by a variety of molds, particularly Aspergillus, Penicillium, and Byssochlamys. Often found in rotting apples and apple products, patulin can also occur in various moldy fruits, grains, and other foods. Acute exposure to Patulin causes nausea, gastrointestinal disturbances, and vomiting.
