Paradise Island Drive, Nassau, New Providence, The Bahamas
On May 2, 2016 evening I ate Grouper Piccata at Anthony's and woke up at 1:30 the next morning with diarrhea, vomiting. I ended up in the ER at Doctor's Hospital with Ciguatera poisoning. The scary symptoms set in the next few days (low blood pressure, shortness of breath, extreme itching, severe insomnia, then severe stomach pain). I spent my vacation in the hospital. The restaurant never warned me that the fish could have eaten the toxic algae. It is odorless, tasteless and does not cook off or freeze off. I had to hospitalized as soon as I got back to the USA as well. I am on short term disability b/c I couldn't work. Called the Dept of Health while still in Bahamas and was told Mr. Luther ferguson would call me back - never did and I was too sick at the time to follow up. Do NOT eat grouper, snapper, hogfish or barracuda in the Bahamas - you do NOT want this poisoning. | Symptoms: Diarrhea, Nausea, Vomiting, Stomach Pain, Shortness of Breath, Itching
