I purchased the quaker simply granola from Costco. on 11/13/2023. We did not start consuming it until the beginning of December. My elderly mother ate it one time for breakfast and threw up that evening. But we didn't know what had caused this at the time. My partner and I started eating it everyday at breakfast and as part of a trail mix. By December 7th we were both experiencing gastrointestinal issues. He was still eating his trail mix and continued to have nausea and diarrhea. He vomited and had bloody stools. He stopped eating anything and switched to protein shakes because his stomach could not handle food for 2 weeks. I however although nauseous and diarrhea continued kept only eating the granola and yogurt for most of my meals. We had no idea there was anything going on with what we were consuming. I got so sick that I started vomiting on December 15 and had to go to the emergency room on the Dember 17/18 because I coukd not keep anything down. I stopped eating my granola and yogurt. On December 19th. I found out about the recall over the holiday through a flyer from Costco. I had trace bacteria from my ER visit. But it was not cultured. It is January 2. My mother is better because she only at it once. My partner and I are still recovering.I was wondering what my responsibility is at this point. I called the Quaker Hotline. They said I would be escalated to someone.
That was a week ago. Now I called was on hold for an hour. And told it would be 6-8 weeks before someone will reach out from Quaker. Our symptoms are subsiding but is there a blood test or anything we can do to get proof?
This has been an awful experience.
I would look into other possible causes except I only ate the granola and yogurt for most of my meals. And when I finally stopped I started to get better. | Symptoms: Diarrhea, Nausea, Vomiting, Gas, Other, Bloody Stool
