Salmonella After Resort Stay - Grand Bávaro Princess, Punta Cana La Altagracia

3 years ago reported by user-hrbt7272 business

Grand Bávaro Princess, Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

Punta Cana, 23000 La Altagracia, Dominican Republic

I stayed here for 2 weeks beginning March 18th, I became ill during my second week with stomach cramps and diarrhoea. Once I got home I was still unwell so my Doctor sent off some stool samples which confirmed I had Salmonella. Environment Health were then in touch with me to track and trace where I had been and they said with absolute certainty given the time I was at the hotel prior to the onset of my symptoms, it was definitely the hotel I caught this at. I could not have caught this on the plane or before I left the UK and I only ate at the resort the entire stay. Lots of people have said lately they got salmonella from this resort and the resort try to deny this and blame the traveller for poor hygiene or try to accuse us of having eaten elsewhere other than the hotel. I even saw them tell someone it might be because they have changed their diet by being on holiday - you don’t get salmonella from simply changing your diet. They will not accept responsibility. When you are at this resort they do not listen or help you there is a massive language barrier so if you need help when ill you won’t get it. It has been almost 3 weeks since I first got sick and I am still not fully recovered. Do not stay here. It is not safe. | Symptoms: Nausea, Diarrhea, Cramps

We were there three weeks ago and extremely sick from day 3 on. Confirmed salmonella. We are still not back to 100%. The resort said it’s because we didn’t wash our hands after going to the washroom!!! Three of us???? This resort food was awful and the buffets were covered in flies. This resort should Be out in alert . They hide every report. Hope u are feeling better?

Hello, did you get any kind of refund? I have stayed in this hotel for almost the same time frame as you (also 2 weeks - just 3 days later). I also had salmonella, confirmed via a stool sample. As I haven't received any refund yet, I'm considering suing the travel business I booked the trip with. As we have been there at the same time we could support us each other. The fact that you and I traveled there and got sick independently makes it obvious that the origin must be the hotel food. For example, I will be happy to send you a declaration that I experienced the same problems at the same time. If you are interested in helping each other to get some refund, please send me an email to salmonella.bavaro.princess@gmail.com and we can discuss the details.

I've just got back from here yesterday. How did you get on with your claims?

Absolutely they will take no responsibility. Was told that resort can use the defence that we maybe ate out off the resort, or Toulon the plane going there. This place should be shut down
